The Miami Backgammon group is a friendly bunch of South Florida backgammon players. Join us. Players of all skill levels are welcome. We have no membership fees.

We play every week (see day, time and place). Most players like to play tournaments, some prefer to play head-to-head. Either way, just show up an play!

Tournaments have a $10 entry fee. The format consists of 2 “knockout” brackets, like playoffs, with byes when necessary: a main plus a consolation bracket (both of 5-point matches). First-game losers in the main bracket jump to the consolation bracket, so all players are guaranteed to play at least 2 matches.

See images of some of our tournaments in the pictures page.

Have kids in the family who know how to play backgammon? Bring them. Our website sponsor will pay the $10 entry fee for the first player under the age of 18 who enters a tournament.

We are not playing on Valentine’s Day (Wednesday 14 February 2018).

Play resumes the following Wednesday, 21 February 2018.

I am an avid backgammon player, but it is too far for me to travel to Bal Harbour. However, I am very interested to know when you will be starting play up again at the Biltmore in Coral Gables (or better yet, Coconut Grove?) Please keep me posted! I am here until mid-May and then return to Ct. for the summer. Many thanks, regards, Sheila Hill

Are you still having the tournament on Wednesdays?

  4. Alvaro Wong says:

I am interested in starting the backgammon weekly games.
I would be happy to offer my house as a place where we can play backgammon on a weekly basis until the Biltmore resume.
I suggest maybe pitching in and ordering food.
I don’t know how many players have or we can accommodate , I’m also sure we can find a nice small restaurant where we can get together and play.
    I’m open to ideas.

I think that players would like to know that the person arranging games is of credible character. Failing to pay debts is a mark of very poor character. If you want to play with players in the south Florida area, I would suggest you pay your debts.

I am planning on starting a weekly tournament, or chouette for minimum of 4 players at my place in Bal harbour. We have valet parking in my buiding, and a very nice game room with tables and chairs, a/c, very private and quiet.
I am not sure which night would work best for the majority of people,,Tuesday or wensday night, 7-11? Chouettes could be 5-10 a point,,don’t want to discourage anybody,,,tournament should be 9 points, 100 dollar entry, 11 point final.
I would like to get my email out there,,with everybody who is interested email. They can confirm on the Monday before the tournament,,i can email everyone of the head count, and status of if we have enough people for a tournament. I don’t want anybody driving all the way to bal harbour if there is nobody showing up, and this would be one way of avoiding that. Paper, pencils, drinks provided. lets see How many people would be interested in playing weekly in bal harbour, and hopefully start live play again. let me know your thoughts or ideas
      thank you

  5. For as many years I have been playing and sometimes all night long I do consider myself a very good player. I love the game. Laurie

Every Wednesday evening, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Fla., at the 19th Hole Bar and Grill (around the back of the hotel at the golf course). Lately, we have been playing chouettes, but if we have a large number of players, we will have a tournament. In that event, the tournament begins at 7 p.m.

New event! Let’s show those Boca Boys how to play the game!
We now have some action in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Boca. If we can all get together, we could have a hell of a tournament!
Maybe we can all meet up in October for the 2013 FLORIDA STATE BACKGAMMON CHAMPIONSHIP. [Go to backgammonpromotion.com to see brochure]
Check out ‘meetup.com’, under Fort Lauderdale Backgammon. Tournaments on the fourth Sunday each month, from 12:30 to 4 or 5 PM.
We just started a Tuesday evening tournament in Boca Raton, starting around 6 PM with dinner included. Spread the word to your friends and other backgammon players.
Help me develop an extensive e-mail list by asking other players to e-mail me their e-mails. Feel free to call me with any questions.
    Good dice to you ,

I love Backgammon but would like to observe and play with no pressure… I used to play often but kind of rusty, and the Biltmore is beautiful setting…love to join your group, if you can welcome me…I live in SOBE and there are also great locations here, for example, on 41st street a place called ????oh, the Well. Also CG Yacht club may be nice…rusty but need fast play or I get bored

    • Leo says:

Please join us. Don’t have to play. You can watch me make lots and lots of errors!

  15. Jorge says:

hello everyone, my name is jorge. I was recently introduced to backgammon and was instantly hooked. I’m looking to join a local club. I actually live near downtown Miami and work near coral gables so this is perfect!

what do I have to do to join this club?

  16. lance novak says:

will there be backgammon players at the biltmore on wed. sept. 19??

  17. Chris MacLeod says:

How many people are in your backgammon club? I own a bar/cafe called The Corner in downtown Miami and have a group of friends that are interested in backgammon. We currently play informally a few times a week. We were going to start our own tournament style gig over here but if you guys are already up and running maybe it makes more sense to join forces. Would you be amenable to setting up shop at The Corner?

    • Leo says:

The more places we have to play the merrier. Are you still playing? If so, we can visit y’all. What days do you play?
